Agnes Duffy - Past President

Agnes Duffy is a name associated with numerous "firsts" and synonymous with bowling. She is a past president of the California WBA and a Member Emerita of the WIBC where she retired as First Vice President. She is a Life Member of the California WBA, Alameda Country WBA and Richmond WBA and a Hall of Fame member of WIBC, CWBA and the Richmond and Alameda County Halls.

Her employment years were spent working in San Francisco in the Import Export field in Europe and the Far East and Mid-East areas.

Agnes rose to the leadership ranks in every bowling association of which she has been a part and currently serves as President of the California Bowling Writers.

She began bowling in 1940 and, always a supporter of association events, she has bowled in the CWBA Championship tournament 56 years and the WIBC tournament 53 years - something accomplished by very few. She won the CWBA "C" Division Singles in 1951 and the Division "A" in the CWBA Senior Women's Singles Tournament in 1996 and represented California in the National Senior Women's tournament.

The California Golden Nugget was a brainchild of Agnes Duffy in 1950 and she was its first Editor. She originated California WBA sponsored Clinics; Chaired the Membership Promotion movement in California and from that the CWBA sponsored Instructor Course originated. She spearheaded the formation of the California Senior Women's Tournament and the California Princess Tournament and served as the first chairman of both. As chairman of the California BVL Committee she expanded the program to include the men's associations and did the oversight for gift purchases for the VA and Military hospitals.

Agnes was a WIBC State Service Representative for eight years organizing 20 local associations in California and later, National Coordinator of Membership Development and an ARC (Area Recruitment Coordinator.)

She was Editor of the National Women Bowling Writers publication Knows for News and the recipient of their special awards: Mary Jannetto Award for Outstanding Local Bowling Promotion; AMF Helen Duval Award for contribution to youth promotion and coaching. She was also the first recipient of the WIBC Membership Development Volunteer of the Year - Agnes Duffy Award, named in her honor.

The list goes on, and in addition to being the CBW President, she serves as a Director on the Bowling Writers Association of America board of directors.

Does she have time for anything else? Golf, swimming, deep sea fishing, reading, gardening, and she is a most astute card player (better know as a shark!).

Like so many successful leaders, Agnes Duffy finds no task impossible and is willing to do whatever is necessary to reach her goals.
