The Hungry Win The Turkey Bowl
By Marian Mann

On November 23rd, Pro Bowlers rolled frozen turkeys down the lanes at Serra Bowl to benefit hungry people in San Francisco and Daly City. They were joined by the Friars of St. Anthony's Dining Center and the volunteers from the Emergency Food Pantry.

The pro bowlers showed off dramatic and zany shots, such as rolling strikes with obstacles such as five chairs on the lane with fans sitting on the chairs while the ball speeds under them, a wall of pins in the middle of the lane, empty soda pop bottles lined along the lanes, billiard bowling, Blindfolded bowlers and other trick shots.

The festive event on the lanes was also filled with 130 "mighty mite" youngsters from Jefferson and West Portal Schools in San Francisco and M.P. Brown School in Daly City. The bowlers earned a turkey for the Dining Center or the Food Pantry with every "No Tap" strike of 7 pins or more. Many adults joined the young people in getting turkeys for the hungry. An optional donation of non-perishable food or money was welcomed from the public. Every lane was filled with bowlers getting "strikes" and having fun.

Radio personalities Don Bleu of Star l0l.3, Renel Brooks-Brooks and Roy of KISS 98.1, Gavin of KABL, the Bear Patrol, KZBR and the KMEL Street Team all joined in the fun with live broadcasts and bowling for turkeys.

The Giants mascot, Lou Seal and Hello Kitty were present to cheer the bowlers on, as well as several "turkeys" and other unusual characters.

The 4th Annual Turkey a rousing success. A total of $11,200 was donated by Serra Bowl to the beneficiaries this year which was the largest amount to date for this event. This is in addition to the money raised by donations.
