Troops to benefit from Bowling Writers Charity
by Mary Lynly

The California Bowling Writers are kicking off their 2008-2009 Phone Cards for the Troops charity. Last year’s effort brought it all together with cooperation from AT&T who sold us the phone cards and help from a group that sends packages and gifts to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The aim was for the cards to arrive on Valentines Day and they did! Each card gave the recipient 300 International minutes and 285 lucky young men and women had the opportunity to touch base with their loved ones. We are sure the cards were shared with buddies so you can double or triple that number.

The most heartwarming part of last year’s drive was the many donations in honor or memory of a loved one. Each calling card is enclosed in a special card with a brief note telling the recipient who the card is in honor or memory of.

Bowlers are the most generous people on earth and CBW is proud to be the vehicle through which these cards get to the troops.

Maybe your league would consider a 50/50 on one league day or if you know of someone your bowlers or friends would like to honor or donate for in someone’s memory – donations may be sent to: Tina Martin, CBW Treasurer, 57 Shields Lane, Novato, CA 94947.
