The Bowlers to Veterans Link Headquarters has just released facts and figures relating to the 2009-2010 fund raising season representing donations submitted by the 49 states listed. While Minneapolis USBC, a long-standing supporter of the BVL, managed to move into the top spot for Local Associations with a contribution of $19,468.89, seventeen California associations were proudly represented for submitting donations over $2,000.00. In a strong second was CA Citrus Belt USBC with their donation of $l5, 156.00. Tying for third place with Greater Seattle, WA was CA Orange County USBC, both donating $ll, 000.00. Also making the list: Gr. Sacramento Area USBC $7,388.59; San Diego USBC $6,841.64; Ventura County USBC WBA $6,400.00; San Gabriel Valley USBC $5,000.00; North Los Angeles Co. USBC $4,894.00; Gold Country USBC $4,586.25; Southern LA County USBC $4,395.00; Modesto USBC $4,000.00; Golden Empire USBC $3583.00; Napa Sonoma USBC $3500.00; Oroville USBC $3000.00; Central Coast USBC $2,601.00; Placer USBC WBA .$2,500.00; Gateway USBC $2,220.00; San Francisco USBC $2,039.00. Again, the perennial state leader was California with our total donation of $l22, 795.72.

Thanks for all of the hours spent, day and night, by each association in an attempt to reach out to each league bowler. However, they could not be as successful as they are without the wonderful cooperation of their Bowling Center Proprietors/Managers who allow them to interact with their customers. There are some centers, however, which go above and beyond working with the local volunteers by initiating a program in house to raise money for the BVL program. And, we all know that with the difficult task each center has to meet their budget, this is extremely generous on their part. In an effort to acknowledge these particular centers, the National BVL Headquarters posts online BVL’s Bowling Center of the Month and for October; Classic Bowling Center in Daly City, California was awarded this honor. If your bowling center(s) “walk the extra mile” for the BVL and you think they have earned this recognition, PLEASE write to the National BVL Headquarters at and nominate them.

You have to admit, all of these results are pretty amazing in spite of today’s economy nationwide. But it is obvious that regardless of how much we struggle to survive, we have never lost sight of our responsibility to provide for our veterans in need. We can only hope these wonderful donations will help our nation do a better job in that regard!

Any individual or group interested in making a donation or becoming a “fundraiser” for the BVL we encourage you to contact Rosie Parker, BVL Chairman; or by telephone (626) 334-8745.
