CBW 2014 Events a Success!
By Mary Lynly, Publicity

Once again, the California Bowling Writers put together a successful party. The party was the CUSBC Awards Banquet at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Sacramento on June 8, 2014 attended by 124 to pay homage to honorees. The guests dined on Tri-Tip, Chicken Cordon Bleu or Baked Salmon, Caesar Salad and Carrot Cake for dessert – all expertly prepared by the Crowne’s chefs. The event was held in the beautiful Terrace Room draped in theme black and white and the CBW board wrapped 40 gifts to match that would be drawn for.

Hall of Fame Honorees were Diddy Watts (posthumously) - Meritorious Service; Tori Romeo Carter - Superior Performance; Scott Poddig – Proprietor of the Year; Tre Webber – Star of Tomorrow and CUSBC Scholarships went to Charles Sandfer and Morgan Cunneen. Last, but not least the winner of the CBW Marijane Viat Writing Award was presented to Bette Addington for her article on Gina Moura.

California USBC had sought out CBW to take over putting together the Awards Banquet and thanks go to Secretary Marianne Evans for doing a great job on promotional items and a beautiful invitation plus doing a yeoman’s job on keeping track of invitations and the task of seating. Thanks also go to the board that helped in a variety of ways from wrapping all of the gifts, selling tickets and promoting banquet reservations.

The CBW Annual meeting led by President Mary Lynly was held earlier in the day and the room was full – gratifying to all. Among reports given was our Phone Cards for the Troops effort fundraising of $61,000 and having sent 2700 cards to grateful troops in Afghanistan and Iraq and. Elections saw the following picked for a two year term: Bette Addington – Vice President; Donna Dillard – Secretary; Jill Williamson and Frank Weiler directors. Due to other commitments, Marianne Evans resigned her position as Secretary.

A good day was had by all and sincere thanks to all who put in the work and to all who attended the events. CBW welcomes the return of Donna Dillard as our secretary and sincere thanks to Marianne Evans for doing a great job and being an asset to our organization.
