Golden Ladies Celebrate Silver
By Jackie Wyckoff

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The National Golden Ladies Classic celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the tournament at the Orleans Bowling Center, Las Vegas, March 23-26, 2015. The tournament is for women fifty and older and fielded an impressive 120 entries. Paula Vidad of Sun City, Calif., bested Tish Johnson of Colorado Springs, Col., 236-225 in the final stepladder match to become the 25th tournament Champion.

Vidad is no stranger to the winners circle. In the past year she has won each of the Senior Women’s Majors, USBC Queens, US Senior Women’s Open and finally the National Golden Ladies Classic. The Golden Ladies is the first stop on the 2015 Senior Triple Crown, presented by the Orleans Hotel and Casino. Based on a points system for the three Majors, women will compete for a $5,000 first prize in a roll off during the final event of the year. The 2014 Triple Crown winner was Johnson.

Jeanette Robinson created the Golden Ladies tournament in 1990 and was on hand for the finals to present Vidad with her trophy and $2500 check. Among senior women bowlers, the “GL” is an overwhelming favorite. In the field of 120 bowlers there were 53 over the age of sixty and six over the age of seventy. In the Super Seniors division Judy Gurney of Mesa, Ariz., took home the winner’s trophy and a check for $1200.

California bowlers were well represented throughout the tournament with 35 bowlers hailing from the Golden State in qualifying and 10 making match play to take home a check.

The 2016 National Golden Ladies will be held March 21-24, 2016 at the Orleans Hotel. For more information check out the Facebook Page National Golden Ladies (https://www.facebook.com/groups/141126726064560/).
