Once again, the California Bowling Writers' (CBW) charity for 2007 is sending phone cards to the troops overseas. This will be the fourth year for this drive. Each year the amount of donations has increased because more and more bowling groups have become involved in this worthwhile cause. Through the generosity of California Bowlers, CBW received $7,000 in 2006. The phone cards were purchased soon after December 31, 2006 and were sent over to the troops for Valentines Day.
CBW is now accepting donations through the December 31, 2007 deadline. We hope to reach out to all California bowling associations to join in and be a part of this year's drive. Any amount is appreciated. Donations (made out to CBW) need to be directed to: Tina Martin-CBW Treasurer- firstname.lastname@example.org . Any questions regarding this drive may be directed to CBW President Mary Lynly at 916/782-1321.
Won't you join us in our efforts to be involved in this year's phone card drive? It is a very rewarding feeling to know the cards do get to the troops serving overseas. And, we do get feedback and recognition for this drive. CBW Director Marian Mann said that bowler Vicki Kennedy was at the San Francisco Airport waiting for her plane to depart and she just happened to be wearing a BVL shirt that day. She was approached by a soldier returning from duty in Iraq and he asked her if she was a bowler and when she said she was, he immediately told her how much he appreciated the bowlers of California and their support and caring with the phone cards!
