NEW! 2011 CA Scratch Classic Tournament

The California USBC Association has re-vamped an old classic tournament. We present the 2011 CA Scratch Classic Tournament. Does everyone remember the old format for the California Youth State Scratch Tournament back in the 80’s? This used to be a huge tournament that had one weekend of qualifying in the north and south then the top 24 bowlers from each location qualified to the finals that were held the following weekend in Fresno. Well, we are bringing back that format for some great competition!

The format is six games scratch of qualifying at either Cal Bowl in Lakewood or Cloverleaf Bowl in Fremont. There will be 4 squads held and you can re-enter at a lower fee – as many times needed to make the cut! The qualifying will be September 10-11 and the Finals for the top 48 bowlers (24 from each location) will be held September 17-18 at AMF Rodeo Lanes in Fresno. There is no entry fee for the finals and all 48 bowlers will cash in the finals and there will be bonus awards offered at the qualifiers and at the finals.

Advanced entries postmarked by September 1 are $125. On-site entries are $150. This event is brand new and we hope that all of the scratch bowlers will come out! There will be side pots and brackets held each squad and also a bowling ball raffle held at each site. Bowling balls were graciously donated from Off the Sheet Pro Shop in San Jose (www.OffTheSheetProShop.com). Thank you to Tony Reyes and Lindsey Wong!

The two 2010 CA State Queens and Masters Champions, Laurie Soto and Dave Wodka have been offered a free berth into the qualifying for this event since those two events have been put on hiatus.

Also, since this is a USBC singles event, scratch youth bowlers are eligible to participate. They just need to sign the scholarship waiver prior to the qualifying event. Please forward this email to those scratch bowlers that you think would be interested. This is another event that just proves that “The Best Bowlers Come from California!” Entries can be downloaded from www.CalUSBC.com.
